THE DIAGEO EMPOWERMENT TRUST SA

Helping communities to thrive, every day, everywhere.

As the world’s leading premium drinks producer, people celebrate with our brands. This is just one way we make a difference in their lives. It is just as important that we play our rightful role in South African communities. By doing so, we’re helping to create new opportunities for the whole country. Our focus is on identifying and supporting promising black, as well as black female entrepreneurs, as they will create opportunities for us all to grow, by supporting their communities’ businesses, creating local jobs and growing the national economy. So, while our supply chain begins in rivers and fields; matures in vineyards, distilleries and breweries, travels in transport networks and comes to life in the trade, it is our aim to add value to a wider audience – South Africa.

Vision. A thriving South Africa.

Our country and the people who live in it, are full of potential. It is only by building a more equitable and inclusive society that we can fulfil, and even exceed, that potential. That’s why it’s so important to have a clear vision of where we’d like to see our nation and its people. Diageo has proven its ability to realise visions around the world. We are present in 180 countries and in those many markets, we operate a number of highly successful social upliftment programmes. We have nurtured them and seen them grow. The DIAGEO Empowerment Trust SA is a strategic partner for DIAGEO in South Africa, with a mandate to advance the development of and support Black-owned businesses in South Africa. In South Africa, we’re nurturing the entrepreneurs amongst us. We’re investing in their efforts, because it is their successes, both locally and nationally, that will benefit us all. This is vital for our country, because it is only through increased black participation in our economy – and black excellence – that we can help the nation’s people, businesses and governments to flourish.

Mission. A transformed South Africa.

Be the change you want to see. DIAGEO Empowerment Trust SA is committed to doing its part in transforming the South African liquor industry to create a representative economic landscape. We’re involved in several transformation projects, including helping sorghum farmers access venture capital and training programmes, partnering and providing capital for budding entrepreneurs and recruiting black, and black women owned, businesses to form part of our supply chain. The DIAGEO Empowerment Trust SA is a BEE vehicle for DIAGEO in South Africa (2013 Amended Codes of Good Practice on BBBEE). We’re also committed to the National Liquor Act (NLA) under which we operate.

Values. A better South Africa.

Good values should lie at the heart of everything you do. It’s the only way to create a society that you’re proud of. That’s the approach the DIAGEO Empowerment Trust SA takes. We want to be the best. We want black and black women entrepreneurs with whom we partner to be the best too. Their successful innovations should be recognised. They should be represented at every stage of our supply chain. And they should be the catalysts for growth and prosperity within their communities. It’s this black excellence that we pursue, helping people achieve it, and unlocking their potential to achieve even greater things. We are also proactive in ensuring alcohol continues to play a positive role in society. We’re committed to playing our part in tackling alcohol misuse.
